Back when we dropped our first EP (Palace Of Mirrors) earlier this year, we joined forces with Beatport for a 'Hide The Sunlight' remix competition. Originally, we were to select one winner + release their remix, but some of the submissions were too good to keep all to ourselves.

Excited to announce the Hide the Sunlight Remixes EP, now available at all major online retailers through Magnetic Moon Records.

Rob sat down with for their A Cappella Interview Series and talked about the beginnings of his career as a producer, his philosophy on honing, developing, and cultivating his craft, and his #1 tip for any budding producer.

Rob sat down with YourEDM and talked the direction of his new music, his go to artists / tracks for when he needs to unwind, and his advice for all aspiring producers.

If you had a message for aspiring producers, what would that advice be?

Garza: To not listen to other peoples advice. You have to be “sick with it” so to speak. You have to want to do it even if nobody else gets it, kind of like a mad scientist. Even if nobody likes it, the creative process itself is the reward.

Your Calling - Cover.jpg

Rob Garza & Neighbour's, "Your Calling" was first inspired by their sunrise sets at Shambhala Music Festival in 2014. Playing one after the other to thousands of inspired music lovers created the beginnings of their bond. The collaboration moved from the stage to studios in San Francisco and Neighbour's own studio in Vancouver where the creative process flowed naturally. During these studio sessions both Garza and Neighbour learned of one another's affinity for Stee Downes' collaboration with Lovebirds on "Want You In My Soul." His vocal styling can be heard on the title track 'Your Calling,' bringing soulful and witty vibes with a classic delivery.

Directed by the amazing Ivan Landau and inspired by Rob's hunt for the perfect agave plants for his Papa Diablo Mezcal, watch the official music video for "Blue Agave Fields," and click here to order the 4-track EP through Magnetic Moon Records.

"Having spent more than two decades in the music industry, Rob Garza has mastered the winter escape. Ahead of the release of his solo EP Palace of Mirrors, the influential co-founder of Thievery Corporation relocated to the heady confines of Jamaica for the latter part of February. The sunshine is sure to help Garza recharge as he preps for solo sets and the 2015 festival season, but it also serves as home base for the first writing and recording sessions behind Thievery Corporation’s forthcoming eighth full-length effort.

Even in paradise, downtime comes at a premium, but Garza doesn’t stress. The Bay Area transplant cherishes his unique role introducing longtime fans to more contemporary electronic soundscapes. These sets place Garza in much more intimate settings, yet the DJ/producer’s studio work still evolves from similar global partnerships that helped shape Thievery Corporation’s signature...

Palace of Mirrors is Magnetic Moons first release. Magnetic Moon is the brainchild of Rob Garza from Thievery Corporation. The first track, “Re Mana” features Indian vocalist Vasuda Sharma hailing from Mumbai who Rob connected with through Andy MacKaye (Bombay Dub Orchestra) on his travels in India. The second remix brings the stylings of UK dwellers Psychemagik, offering up a stellar tripped out floor-groover. “Palace of Mirrors” also features Vasuda, bringing a beautiful and lush transcendental house vibe. The fields of Oaxaca inspired “Blue Agave Fields” and it's deep bass and a desert like dub atmosphere. “Hide the Sunlight” features the voice of Tenerife resident Sutja...

San Francisco-based musician, Rob Garza, holds a legacy that will surely outlast the test of time. As a founder of the international music group,Thievery Corporation, Garza was at the forefront of electronic music movement many years ago, and after decades of accolades, he still remains as a trusted tastemaker as his genre-defying music continues to resonate within listeners around the world. By fusing elements of dub, trip hop, reggae, and bossa nova with an electronic backbone, he’s created his own lane that has inspired other artists to follow in his footsteps without regard to the status quo. Now as he continues on his journey as a solo DJ/producer, Garza explores new sonic frontiers in dance music, while also starting his own label, Magnetic Moon Records, with his debut Palace of Mirrors EP, due out next Tuesday, March 10th.

Over the span of the past couple decades, the electronic music duo Thievery Corporation has done a lot of work laying the foundation for the ongoing EDM explosion while also pushing the genre’s boundaries to cross pop, rock, world music, and a truckload of other genres. Founding member Rob Garza’s recently been concentrating on a solo career and spending some time spinning at Burning Man, among other festivals.

RobGarza_Out of Body Workshop_Thump_Cover.jpg

This latest mix entitled Out of Body Workshop is reflective of the sets I’ve been spinning lately melding deep vibes, otherworldly grooves and tripped out synths.

"Thievery Corporporation member Rob Garza's fresh new MIXED BY is a classy-as-fuck take on a lot of the deeper house music going on at the moment. It's a captivating hour of propulsive 4x4 beats, all laden with a certain ominous tone and seamless mixing. He’s titled it his Out of Body Workshop, and I’m typing this as I float ten feet above my self." - Thump

Rob Garza sat down with Om Malik to talk about the current state of music:

"It’s very interesting, how we value music these days. In some way’s music has lost a lot of its value, and the emotional bond that you would have with a record back in the day.

You would put it on, you would read the liner notes, you would spend the afternoon with it. You maybe listen to it a couple times and you would try to understand this particular piece of art. Now what people do — I’m even guilty of it — you have every song that you’ve ever loved on your iPod or iPhone.

I go through and I’ll listen to 30, 40 seconds of 30 different songs without getting to have, that emotional bond that I would if I actually put on a piece of vinyl, and just sit in a room and listen and connect with the whole experience of, say an album, which is kind of a foreign concept today because a lot of it is built on popularity on iTunes or Spotify, which songs are more popular by a particular artist.

That kind of connection doesn’t really exist the way that it did back in the day. With this new...

Thievery Corporation, one of the most influential and respected names on the electronic/dance music scene, are pleased to announce their seventh studio album, 'Saudade,' their first record devoted entirely to the Brazilian-born genre that first connected the duo.

'Saudade' borrows its title from a Portuguese word meaning “a longing for something or someone that is lost, a contented melancholy, or, simply, the presence of absence.” Drawing influence from classic Brazilian performers like Antonio Carlos Jobim, Gal Costa, and Luis Bonfá—along with Serge Gainsbourg, Ennio Morricone, and more modern artists like electro-samba pioneer Isabelle Antena—Saudade achieves its delicate yet deeply sensuous sound with the help of more than a dozen guest musicians. With each track sung by one of five female vocalists (including longtime Thievery cohort LouLou Ghelichkhani, newcomer Elin Melgarejo, Nouvelle Vague singer Karina Zeviani, Argentine chanteuse Natalia Clavier, and former...

There’s many beautiful gems from all corners of the globe, these are the kinds of sounds that inspired Eric and myself when we started Thievery Corporation.

I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed making this mix. We look forward to seeing you in Mexico celebrating our galactic journey at Day Zero!
